State of the Arts is a quarterly printed publication which includes articles of interest to artists, arts educators, arts administrators, patrons, advocates and those interested in the state of the arts in Georgia. State of the Arts covers what is new in the Georgia arts community and stories where we find success with initiatives, programs and people in the Georgia arts community. Fall ArtsGeorgia celebrates the grand opening of St. EOM’s Pasaquan with this special edition. Doug DeLoach, our new writer, and Tom Patterson, author of St. EOM in the Land of Pasaquan, write about all aspects of Pasaquan, its history and visionary founder, its significance and the people who worked on the restoration. The issue is filled with images of this phantasmagorical artist environment. The work is now complete thanks to funding from the Kohler Foundation. The site is owned and administered by Columbus State University for future maintenance and as a teaching opportunity. ArtsGeorgia celebrates the month of October as Georgians for the Arts Month, a statewide campaign of stakeholders advocating support for increased state funding for the arts and arts education. Spring & Summer We celebrate the 2016 Year of Georgia Music with a review of the Savannah Music Festival by our new contributing writer, Doug DeLoach; and with a story about the successful launch of a new music school bringing star power to Callanwolde. The Atlanta Photography Group reports on a new award for photography’s rising young stars. The DCA has initiated, funded and maintained successful programs to make Savannah a city rich with arts and culture. Besides the glorious Savannah Music Festival and the exciting Savannah Film Festival, Art Rise Savannah with the DCA’s support is a youthful arts organization on the Arts March; their story is told in a complementary article. Our feature story highlights the hard work of the dedicated citizens of Jonesboro who just won a national award for Arts Clayton. Fall Our third issue includes articles on what is new in the Georgia arts community, and stories where we have found success with initiatives, programs and people in the arts community from around the state. Our coverage includes a variety of stories related to arts education, arts in education, arts in after school and the effect of arts on education with exciting stories about the new UGA Arts Council and their November festival, Spot Light on the Arts; the Cultural Arts Council's award of an NEA grant for the expansion of its Arts in After School program; and a model recycling program that benefits artists, teachers, non profits, and teaches environmental best practices.
