Fractional Tax Legislation Passes Georgia House
House Bill 153 amends the county special purpose local option sales tax so as to allow such taxes to be imposed at a rate of less than 1 percent; to provide for the simultaneous levy of more than one tax under such part if the combined rate of such taxes does not exceed 1 percent.
This bill is distinguishable from a previous version intended to provide funding for the arts and community development. HB 153 is not limited to a specific purpose, but such a fractional tax splost could include funding for the arts as part of the purpose for voter approval in any of Georgia’s 159 counties. The legislation is now in the Georgia Senate for consideration. http://www.legis.ga.gov/
